Cloud is Trending and How

In the global marketplace, digital technology trends are changing the way we work. Disruptive technologies like the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Virtual Reality (VR) are changing the way businesses operate. Businesses need to be agile today to keep up with the rapidly changing industry trends, or they risk being left behind.

Cloud services power the new pattern of Digital Transformation. Cloud services enable companies to continuously transform not only technologically but also culturally. From lead tracing to home delivery, no industry has been left behind by cloud services. The last decade has seen a rapid shift from traditional infrastructure to cloud infrastructure and services. Netflix is one example of a company that has moved to the cloud, redefining the way people consume TV.

With the cloud ecosystem, companies can become more agile and innovative, resulting in compelling customer experiences. To remain competitive, organizations taking the journey to the cloud will have to continuously rethink things such as culture, people, processes, and technology.

The following are some of the key trends we hope to see in cloud computing in 2021 and beyond, exemplifying the future of cloud computing.

1-AI getting personalized – The shift has already started and is going to accelerate next year with big enterprises experimenting with AI and machine learning to deliver personalized experience to consumers at scale.

2-Hybrid cloud services – As more and more technology giants launch their cloud services, organizations have realized that there is no one-size-fits all solution that suits their needs. This has led the tech cloud services providers to reassess their models and become more agile, giving the companies the choice to choose a suite of their offerings based on their business needs. We see a trend of these cloud services evolving throughout 2021 to consolidate the changing user requirements.

3-Platform governance – Recently there was a huge Facebook issue, leading the Social Media giant to implement policies to limit the spread of false information via its platforms to the users. For tech-focused platform companies like Uber, Airbnb, Facebook etc., platform governance will be a big focus in 2021 to prevent the misuse of their platforms and protect their users from false rumours.

4-Gaming going the cloud way – Statista predicts that by 2021, there will be 2.73 billion gamers worldwide. Gamers often struggle with the high cost of equipment, like Xbox and play stations. On top of that, buying games once you have set up for your gaming console causes a serious dent in your pockets. Cloud computing has solved many of the problems faced by both gaming companies and end users. With cloud gaming, games live in delivery networks and data centres, eliminating the need for downloading games. Furthermore, cloud services allow users to pay for high-end games on low-end consoles. Gamers can play multiple games at a time and save their progress. Piracy is difficult without physical CDs. Last but not the least, the same game can be made available on multiple platforms. Thus, Cloud services are a win-win for both users and the gaming companies.

5-Going Serverless – According to the Flexera 2020 State of the Cloud report, Serverless was among the top five fastest-growing PaaS cloud services for 2020.  Serverless architecture implies removal of all barriers that come along with a typical IT infrastructure. The task of managing servers falls on the third part, leading to a host of advantages like easy operational management, reduced costs, and liability to name a few.

The Cloud Challenges

The growth of cloud services has been phenomenal and fast.  Gartner forecasts that by 2022, 90% of organizations will be using cloud services. Cloud services, however, come along with a number of challenges for businesses that opt for them.

The first is the security issue: hacked interfaces and APIs, data theft, leakage, and deletion have been the biggest concerns for companies moving to the Cloud, because you can't see the exact location of data storage. Because of the above factors, it becomes difficult to trust third parties with sensitive and proprietary data. This has highlighted the need for an airtight security system to ensure the safety of client’s data.

Fortunately, service providers are constantly evolving their security capabilities. Before using cloud services, businesses should review their security measures and ensure that they have strict data recovery policies in place. Ensure that your organization is in compliance with all industry regulations and laws while auditing vendors for their security systems.

This is one of the many challenges facing cloud services. Apart from security issues, moving an application cloud system also brings forth many challenges like slow data migration, application downtime, extensive troubleshooting, etc.

When an application or a business moves to the cloud, it becomes dependent on service providers. You are down when your provider is down. Since for the data driven decision making process, real-time data is imperative, organizations while choosing the service providers should keep in consideration vendors’ solutions to provide real time data stored on the cloud.

Cloud services have revolutionized the way the IT industry works. However, it is imperative to choose a vendor/delivery partner that meets all the needs of your business model and goals and provides an adaptable, secure, and innovative cloud solution.
